Major configurations

The aspects often can form a major configuration, which, like the patterns, help set the tone of the overall characteristics.

T-Square

The t-sqare is two planets in opposition with a third planet or point forming a square to both. The planets are usually in the same mode element (cardinal, fixed, mutable). This is defined as obstacles to be overcome with a need to balance. The mode generally helps uderstand the pattern. The focal point or outlet is the fourth sign without the square.

The Grand Cross

The grand cross has the same quality of the t-square and is also usually a single mode. The configuration adds another planet or point at the fourth sign of a mode. It has two oppositions which are square to each other.

The Grand Trine

The grand trine involves three or more planets which are trine from each other. The quality is soft, and it indicates what flows easily in the chart, or negatively what flows too easily in the chart. These planets are usually in the same element, and this too will give better understanding as to how the pattern will be manifested.

The Yod

Two planets form a sextile to each other and each planet forms a quincunx to a third planet. This involves mixed energies, and usually suggests some radical change or destiny at some point in life in terms of these planets or the houses they occupy or rule. Since both the sextile and quincunx involve other people, the change may be brought about by someone else.

The cradle

The cradle connect four or more planets or points by sextile, with the fist and last planet forming an opposition. This is a soft configuration (sextiles) with a need to balance (opposition). It generally indicates help from the outside. This is the situation of someone being at the right place at the right time. (note that there are also two trines formed).

The Hooded Cradle

The hooded cradle connects five or more planets or points by sextile with two oppositions. It has basically the same meaning as a cradle with more of a need to balance things, and it is more intricate.
